FAQ
What are the jewelry made of?
Miao jewelry is mainly composed of an alloy of silver, copper, and zinc, silver-plated. They do not contain nickel.
I am allergic to nickel, can I still wear Miao jewelry?
Yes, Miao jewelry does not contain nickel. For earrings, most of them are usually mounted on traditional hooks made of alloy. If you have sensitive ears that are easily irritated, you can request to have them mounted on stainless steel hooks by specifying this when placing your order.
I don’t have pierced ears and would like to wear clip earrings.
Dzigana can mount all earrings on clips. To do this, you need to indicate it during the ordering process in the "order details" section, and we will send you the earrings with clips.
I have a very small (or large) wrist. How can I be sure the chosen bracelet will fit?
Open bracelets are all slightly malleable and can adapt to any wrist. For closed bracelets, the issue often lies in getting it over the hand. The diameter of closed bracelets is indicated; you can refer to a bracelet you already own to compare sizes and ensure you can get it on. For soft, long bracelets that fasten, we can adjust them to your size. Just specify the desired size during the ordering process.
How do I maintain silver jewelry?
Jewelry does not tolerate solvents (alcohol, cosmetics, perfumes, harsh cleaning products like bleach, ammonia...) and is not meant to be worn in the pool or sea. You can clean them simply with toothpaste or even soapy water, then rub them with a dry cloth to make them shine. You can also use a silver cleaner found in hardware stores, preferably avoiding those meant for silverware as they are too harsh for jewelry.
Can embroidered jewelry get wet?
No. Embroidered jewelry should not be submerged in water. If this happens by mistake, you should blot the excess water with absorbent paper and let it dry for a few hours.
How do I maintain the embroidery on the jewelry?
Embroidery will naturally develop a patina over time. Depending on the villages where the embroidery was produced, they are either made of cotton (the majority) or polyester. For embroidery with a slightly shiny appearance made of polyester, you can lightly brush them with an old toothbrush and mild soap. For cotton embroidery, it is not advisable to wet them as colors may bleed into each other.
How can I clean the accessory I purchased (bag, pouch, wallet)?
The bags are made from old embroidery and are therefore more fragile than a new item. We recommend hand washing them or simply brushing the outside with a small brush and soapy water. Pouches and wallets are also made from old embroidery, often from skirts, and can be machine washed on a low temperature. Accessories containing leather cannot be machine washed, of course. Dzigana cannot be held responsible for any washing accidents.
The bag (pouch, wallet) I purchased already shows signs of wear.
The fabric items sold by Dzigana are made from old fabrics and embroidery. Most often, they are recycled from old garments that were hand-embroidered and worn by the women who created them. Despite the care Dzigana takes in selection, there may be visible signs of wear. These marks are a testament to the authenticity of the fabrics and embroidery and add character to your bag (pouch, wallet...): it was made from a fabric or embroidery that has already had a life before this one, created by a woman who chose the colors and patterns for herself, giving it a unique charm.
Can the block-printed pareos/scarves bleed?
Yes. The pareos/scarves are made with natural dyes, without chemicals. It is advisable to set the colors before using them.
How do I set the colors?
Soak the fabrics in a basin for several hours (or even overnight) in cold water with a large glass of vinegar and possibly a large glass of coarse salt, both of which help set the dyes. Rinse them thoroughly in cold water to remove any excess color. This process will not fade the colors but will prevent them from transferring onto other fabrics.
How do I wash Indian block print?
The block-printed pareos/scarves are made of cotton with natural dyes. You can wash them by hand. You can also machine wash them with colored laundry after setting the colors using the method explained above.
My patchwork embroidery jacket has slight defects on some pieces, is this normal?
The Kashmiri embroidered jackets are made from recycled pieces that had a previous life as women's clothing. Therefore, they may have some defects such as mending, missing embroidery pieces, discoloration of certain threads, or other signs of a previous life. Dzigana takes great care in checking them in detail to ensure that no defects likely to worsen are overlooked.
How do I wash my Kashmiri embroidery jacket?
These jackets are made with recycled embroidery that has already been washed during its previous life on garments. However, we recommend having them dry-cleaned (they're not washed every week!) to preserve the vibrancy of the colors. When necessary, you can also gently scrub the inside of the collar or sleeves with mild soap. If you decide to machine wash it, make sure to select the wool program and use a laundry bag to prevent friction in the washing machine drum.
My upcycled jeans jacket has slight defects, is this normal?
The hand-upcycled jackets are second-hand garments. They have already been worn and are getting a second life. Dzigana pays special attention to selecting them in excellent condition, but it's possible for a small defect to go unnoticed. The embroideries are also recycled and bear the marks of time, which adds to their charm.
Where do the embroideries on the jeans jackets come from?
All the embroideries come from Véronique's travels, the creator of Dzigana. Depending on the jacket you have chosen, they mainly originate from Chinese minority ethnic groups or from Gujarat and Rajasthan in India. The description of the jacket specifies the origin of the embroideries.
How do I wash my jeans jacket?
We have ensured that the embroideries do not bleed during washing or have pre-fixed their colors. You can wash it in the machine with your other jeans, but be sure to wash it inside out to avoid damaging the embroideries from contact with the drum of the machine. To do this, close the buttons or zipper and turn it inside out. You can also use a laundry bag.
