The Creator's Story

After 10 years of teaching Qi Gong in France, I moved to China, to Kunming in Yunnan, to deepen my knowledge of Chinese internal arts and to learn Mandarin. That was in 2005. I was — and still am — fascinated by this Southwestern part of China, beautiful, authentic, and rich in diverse cultures that intermingle due to the presence of numerous ethnic minorities. My many travels led me to meet the Naxi, Moso, Bai, Yi, Dai, Lisu... One encounter was decisive and changed my life: meeting a young woman from the Miao people, Liu Jie. A strong friendship was immediately formed, and thanks to her and her family, I discovered the Miao culture and life from the inside. After spending varying lengths of time with them over several years, I sought a way to help improve their living conditions and promote this beautiful culture, which is reflected in their jewelry and embroidery, a living illustration of ancestral craftsmanship. In 2009, I created Chine Indigo to sell Miao handicrafts in France, promote their culture, and support all the artisans in my village. If you had told me 10 years earlier that I would be doing business... I would have laughed heartily, and besides, I knew nothing about it. Me, a literary soul nourished by spirituality and energy, now confronted with material goods and money, which until then represented the source of all the world's problems! Facing sales, imports, customs, management...! I can say that we evolved together, my Miao village and I: me, gradually learning the ins and outs of business, and the Miao, structuring themselves and adjusting some of their practices to meet Western quality standards. My greatest achievement is the joint creation, with Liu Jie, of the embroidered jewelry collection, which has completely revitalized the art of embroidery and the creativity of the Miao artisans.

FROM CHINE INDIGO TO DZIGANA

The COVID years and the inability to return to China... A friend, knowing my passion for artisanal embroidery, invited me to accompany him to Rajasthan. My eyes sparkled, and my hands eagerly searched for the most beautiful embroidered wonders, vibrant with colors, rich in patterns and infinitely varied techniques. My creativity reawakened, and my world expanded to include other cultures that also delight my eyes, my soul, and my heart. DZIGANA is this new breath of life, this drive that, at 60, makes me want to reinvent myself once again, to share my amazements and discoveries, my world as a bohemian traveler, a lover of beautiful things that have soul.

OUR VALUES AND COMMITMENTS

RESPECT FOR OUR CUSTOMERS

Each customer contributes with every purchase to supporting the Miao, so we consider you as partners, and we do everything to make you happy to wear our jewelry. We listen to all your individual requests and will do our best to meet them.

FAIR TRADE

We cooperate with all the jewelry artisans of a village in Guizhou. The price requested by the artisans is paid without bargaining, with 60% upfront at the time of the order. The mutual trust ensures fair and equitable prices for everyone. We personally know the artisans and work directly with them, without intermediaries. We buy the embroideries directly from the women who sell them.

ECOLOGICAL COMMITMENT

Each year, we calculate the carbon consumption generated by the travel required for our activity (plane tickets and air freight), and we commit to donating the equivalent amount to an NGO that compensates with ecological investments for our planet, currently GOOD PLANET, which dedicates 85% of its resources to on-the-ground actions.

ECO-FRIENDLY

We have chosen to limit our packaging: no unnecessary pretty pouches that are immediately thrown away (the jewelry is sent in simple tissue paper, but we are happy to gift wrap in kraft paper upon request). We also have a partnership with the village post office to reuse their small boxes (from registered mail forms, Colissimo, etc.) to send your orders, unless you specify otherwise.

EMPOWERING WOMEN

The use of embroideries in the embroidered jewelry collection has led to a revival of the art of embroidery, highlighting women's work and ensuring them a direct income. This beautiful craft is compensated with an awareness of the long hours of work it requires. In this way, we contribute to the preservation and recognition of women's craftsmanship.

QUALITY COMMITMENT

All our products are handmade, and we check their quality and finish. However, some may have slight imperfections inherent to manual work. We are attentive to any potential quality issues and provide after-sales service to ensure your satisfaction and enjoyment of wearing our jewelry and accessories.
